Young Talents Emerge Through Asian Le Mans Racing

The Asian Le Mans Series not only features a variety of teams, cars but also drivers from different backgrounds and experiences. In the 2015-2016 season, we saw the emergence of several young talents under the age of 20 years.

Thomas Laurent (1998) who drove with LMP3 class Champion DC Racing has started his 2017 season with Yvan Muller Racing in both the Porsche Carrera Cup France and in LMP3 in the European Le Mans Series.

Martin Rump (1996), Akash Nandy (1997), James Munro (1997) drove with GTAm class Champion KCMG. Akash recently announced a full season foray in the GP3 Series. James has started his season in the USF2000 series.

Giorgio Maggi (1997) secured both Team and Driver Championships in the CN class with Team Avelon and is currently competing with Race Performance (2015/2016 Asian Le Mans Series LMP2 Champion) in LMP3 in the European Le Mans Series.

We wish all of them great success in their endeavours and look forward to seeing them back in the Asian Le Mans family and racing, be it in the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup or Asian Le Mans Series.

EKS Motorsports to support Porsche customers in the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup

EKS Motorsports, the long time Porsche Carrera Cup Asia official technical and customer support partner will provide support to the Porsche teams entered in the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup.

Thanks to their Sepang base, the Malaysian company will also be able to provide Porsche-trained mechanics and the full and comprehensive technical support to all Porsche teams and drivers competing in the series, ensuring that the race cars are race-prepared, set-up, maintained or repaired for a weekend of racing.

About the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup

The Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup is the latest ACO created series and will be run by the Asian Le Mans Endurance Management Ltd.
The championship is reserved for LM P3, CN and GT Cup cars (For the latter the ACO reserves the right to adjust their performances). Entirely held (over three 2 race events) in Sepang (Malaysia), the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup will provide teams and drivers the opportunity to compete on one of the most beautiful circuits in Asia at a reasonable cost.
The Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup is not only the basis of the ACO racing pyramid in Asia, but also a perfect stepping stone in prototype racing and the ACO environment.

LIGIER (Onroak Automotive)
In May, Onroak Automotive will be opening a branch at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. It will offer a customer backup service as well as spare parts for its different models racing in the CN, LM P3 and LM P2 categories on the Asian continent. This branch will provide a rapid-intervention service to meet the needs of the teams competing in both the Asian Le Mans Series, and the new Asian Le Mans Series Sprint Cup while optimising transport costs.

Michelin ACO Asian Series partner for the 2016/2017 season

Michelin has renewed its confidence in the Asian Le Mans Series for the fourth year running, and has extended its involvement in the whole platform put in place by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest on the Asian continent.

This year the French manufacturer will be the exclusive supplier for the whole field in the Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s two Asian series: the Asian Le Mans Series, the ACO’s main championship in Asia that will now be run to a four-hour format, and the Asian Le Mans Series Sprint Cup, the new series reserved for LM P3 and CN prototypes and GT Cup cars, which will have a sprint format with two one-hour races.

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest is delighted to announce not only the renewal, but also the extension of its partnership with Michelin in Asia. This agreement fits in with both parties’ common intent to develop motor sport in Asia, as well as promoting the French manufacturer’s and the Le Mans label’s products through performance.

The 2016-2017 Asian Le Mans Series comprises seven events and 10 races as follows:

Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup

  • Round 1: 27/29th May 2016 – Sepang (Malaysia) // 2×60′
  • Round 2: 5/7/th August 2016 – Sepang (Malaysia) // 2×60′
  • Round 3: 2/4th September 2016 – Sepang (Malaysia) // 2×60′

Asian Le Mans Series

  • Round 1: 28/30th October 2016 – Zhuhai (China) // 4 hours
  • Round 2: 2/4th December 2016 – Fuji (Japan) // 4 hours
  • Round 3: 6/8th January 2017 – Buriram (Thailand) // 4 hours
  • Round 4 : 20/22nd January 2017 – Sepang (Malaysia) // 4 hours

TOTAL partner of the Asian Le Mans platform


For the fourth year in a row TOTAL continues its commitment with the ACO in Asia. The partnership will include both the Asian Le Mans Series and the newly created Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup.

Back in 2013 TOTAL immediately believed in the Asian Le Mans project and potential and was one of the first partner of the series. With this new partnership TOTAL will be associated with the whole ACO platform in Asia (7 events and 10 races between May and January) and will then benefit from a larger exposure both on and off the track which complement its growing presence within the context of the major events held in Le Mans.

Highly experienced in motorsport and with leading-edge technology, the French petroleum company will exclusively supply the Asian Le Mans Series field with 102RON fuel developed by TOTAL Additives & Special fuels when it will concentrate on promoting their lubricant products in the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup.

LMP3 Norma, Sixth Chassis Constructor

Norma will be the sixth chassis constructor for the LMP3 category. Given the success of the Le Mans Prototype 3 category the Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s Sport Committee has decided to increase the number of constructors to meet the growth of the market. Thus, it has selected a sixth chassis constructor, Norma, to supply cars to the category in the continental championships, the European and Asian Le Mans Series.

The names of the six constructors are as follows: Norma (France), Ginetta (UK), Onroak Automotive (France), Riley Technologies (USA), Adess AG (Germany) and Dome (Japan).

Onroak Automotive In Asia

In parallel to the development of its activity in the United States, Onroak Automotive is working on deploying the necessary resources to meet new needs. In 2016, Onroak Automotive will open a workshop in Asia for the races in the Asian Le Mans Series and the new Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup. A stock of spare parts for the different CN, LM P3 and LM P2 models present on the Asian continent will be available to quickly fulfil the requirements of the teams while optimising the transport costs. At the request of clients a backup service could also be set up in keeping with the calendar.
